i know what you mean, but i think strummer basically ditched the whole rich deal. can’t help what you’re born into.
like i said, im not too concerned with whose right or wrong. everyone has their faults, im only 18 so i wasn’t around for this.
i dont know, sounds to me like he did choose it. i thought punk was a way to vent frustration and rebel against “the man” or some shit like that. a way of working toward a better life so we dont end up like kids in somalia who have no other choice but to be child soldiers or pirates. you say ur friend went to america, which is not so bad compared to the rest of the world. if ur friend is in the shits, he put himself there. “The shit we have to climb through is the shit we choose to take”.
i dont know, i don’t think The Clash really took the cash so to speak. Sandanista was a triple that only cost like 6 bucks. Strummer was in debt to epic for most of his life. I really don’t think the Clash did anything wrong until around Combat Rock, when they became stars. but everything before, they may have had some money, but in an interview Joe said they use it to pay for touring. hell, most of The Clash squatted. but, i think this argument is for the older generation. I respect both bands.
yeah your right….people are just punks for fashion….ten years ago, me and my friends were punks, it was our opinion….fuck politicans…fuck the system….and so much things we were against…..fuck society…..but today the kids are just punx for nothing and nothing…..no own opinion….it´s a shame….punks not dead…were so important…oi oi oi
Punks don’t buy cloths law, my best friend who is from france, who now lives in america is a punk through and through, not because he has the money to pay for the cloths and shit, but because he lives the lifestyle, believe in it, his cloths are all fucked up because he is to poor to pay for new ones. Not because he chooses them to be like that.
‘Punk is Dead’ means the leaders are sold out. Its the same as when Nas said Hip-Hop is dead. Blokes are in it for the money. Theyre using a movement to make hollow product for the sake of the fame.
The Ramones stood against flashy mainstream music. Sex Pistols stood against eliticism. Black Flag against conformity. Crass against violence. These groups had a purpose. Where is that today? Punk is dead, atleast we agree on that.
They played á RAR show but when offered payment for the show they didn´t want it and told the promoters that is should go to the cause. To which they got the reply “THIS is the cause”.
do you really think people are no longer punks for fashion? maybe not in your country, but down here it’s the damn usual.
“still dressing punk, you fashion victim?” I’d like to ask to all those idiot, money-filled sons and daughters
Joe Strummer was a fraud. I’m by no means an anarchist, and I’m not a fan of Crass, but Joe Strummer was the son of a diplomat and nixson7668 is right in everything he has said in regards to Joe.
dont b such an ejit joe strummer has only one principal…his bank balance.. if it was fasionable to be racist and would hav earned an xtra bob or two he would hav bin a nazi..trust me, i know one of his best mates. m
Yep. When punk was “alive” in 77-89 it was the popular thing to do, and now that its not the popular trendy thing anymore (emo and scene are today) its dead. “Punk Is Dead” means “being punk doesn’t make you look cool,” if your a real punk you don’t care about looking cool, punks about doing what you want.
punks dead, I hope it stays dead!
I had always thought Crass were a decent band, not that I had listened to them very much, but now I see that I really dislike them. Who are they to accuse Joe Strummer of leaving his principles? That’s fucking dumb.

Strummer was a tourist, man. look at who his daddy was. slogging it in with the working class at their quaint little punk shows.
brings new meaning to the phrase “cheap holiday in other peoples misery.”

when people say “punks dead” they mean its not the mainstream anymore. People are no longer punks for fashion, its now, officially, a way of life.
