Willy DeVille is America’s loss even if America doesnt know it yet. The reason is simple: Like the very best rock and roll writers and performers in our history, hes one of the very few who got it right; he understood what made a three-minute song great, and why it mattered—because it mattered to him. He lived and died with the audience in his shows, and he gave them something to remember when they left the theater, because he meant every single word of every song as he performed it.

I remember playing the grooves on the first Mink record with a college buddy.
and later on in life adopting “Maybe Tomorrow”.
and then hearing the song from the Princess Bride.
    he was an original.

Willy, Du warst einmalig. Werde Dich vermissen…

Let you in on a little something….. Who cares? Anyway, guess I was wrong, and maybe you are the “Spokesperson”. Everybody’s dead now anyway. Dirk, Britley, Frankie, even Ness. CBGB’s in Vegas (That says it all), the Mab is a Wedding hall. Keep going, you are refreshing. Sorry to offend.

Always reminded me of The Jim Carroll Band, or should I say that the other way around:), especially Willy and his ban in these years, circia 78-82 or so. Anyway, RIP brother.

That’s good. Really stupid, but good. I like your sense of humor. Seriously. It’s unfortunate you never saw or heard of him before. He was important. And….. he would agree with you…. and be complimented by your observations. Actually, he looks like a Porn Star from the ’60’s. Ever hear of “West Side Story”? Bernardo? The Jets and the Sharks?
Different time and place, brother. Why should you know?

Wow, angry boy. So. Let’s see…. You know punk. Do you know The Nuns, Crime, The Mambuhay? Bet you’re young and think The Ramones were ‘cool’.
Simply put: Where were you in ‘77?
Dripping down the crack in your mamma’s ass? GO AWAY!

fuck off and be dead. the term “punk rock legend” is as contradictory as the notion that this band did something well. aint punk rock for shit. go slum it at the expense of some other scene – punk rock/underground doesnt accept this poser trash.
