He is an incredible talent. His sound is so distinct. He is also so well rounded in styles…he looks awkward like a long legged spider but he weaves a beautiful flawless web of music….yeah corny but true. I had the original floppy from an old guitar for the practicing musician. I love this tune just as much as I did the first time I heard it if not more.

    @REPTARisGNARLY

Clearly he needs more music theory because this does not sound like blues to me, sounds like contemporary soft porn through a delay pedal.

well that’s a bullshit statement. You obviously don’t know every guitarist in the world now do you. So you don’t have anything to back that up at all.

I bet you he knows (and incorportates into his playing) more music theory than any other guitarist.

EJ has brought a new dimension to the guitar. Such a great sound and excellent technique. I really like the way he plays!

Fender made in 1954. Not a reproduction, it would be 55 years old (His exact age) today. Pre-CBS, which go for around $50,000 if parts weren’t exchanged.

Reminiscent of classic Phil Keaggy performances. I saw him in 1980. It sounds like Eric is channeling that concert

Haven’t had the chance to talk to any of them in person unfortunately, they never perform where I live and I can’t ever drive out to performances.

I don’t know, he likes his notes being heard. He turns his treble off on his Marshalls, so it wouldn’t be suprising if he has some reverb on them to give them that little bit of pop.

EJ made the Fender G-DEC sound good, so we know it’s in the fingers.

I thought you meant you actually talked to him (person to person) :-P
A lot of the reverb is coming from the PA (Tone freak Eric Johnson probably says the verb drowns the tone) He’ll use the reverb on his Twin Reverbs for clean, though.
And there’s also the post-mic delay from the MXR 1500 adding to the mix
But in the end, EJ could sound good through the freaking Fender Frontman 15G

I was about to recommend you the same video, nice thinking. EJ has really inspired me to play (On a more serious style) than I did before.

As for Tommy Taylor, he is a frequent poster on EJ’s forum’s on his site. Easy way to talk to him is through that, he answers a lot of questions related to EJ’s rig’s and guitars. The reverb unit in the Marshall I heard through some other people and while browsing. It sounds like there is some reverb on a lot of his live performances.

    You talked to Tommy Taylor??
Anyway, I was going by most of the info I read on his rig (being a guitar geek myself I’ve done my homework) :-P
Also, there is a recent Harmony Central video series featuring him discussing everything about the rig – check that out.
I haven’t heard about a reverb unit IN the Marshalls. Good idea, though – I wish the plexis had ‘verb.
    …and a post-phase master…

From what I recall from talking to his drummer and such, the Echoplex goes into his Fender and the EHX is there to add more delay when needed. His MXR1500 adds delay to the Marshall and he pushes the Marshall more with the BK Butler which gives the violin tone. The plexi is from the handwired series, so it’s relatively new.

I also heard he had his Marshalls are modded for a reverb patch, as did Clapton.

No, his strat made in 1954.

Currently however (After this performance his signature line was released) he uses his signature guitars.
