i get what you’re saying, but you’re overgeneralizing shred. what you are saying is true in a lot of cases: that it sounds robotic and is based purely on speed, and is enjoyed only by people who are impressed by that kind of bullshit. i’m thinking of dragonforce. but this is NOT the case with eric johnson. even though his playing is extremely fast and intricate, you simply can’t say that it isn’t musical. he has immaculate tone and expression, and the speed only comes from his mastery of guitar.

I think that’s a jazz 3 he’s using. Jim dunlop makes them. Not long ago, they had made some eric johnson picks and I had just called the jim dunlop customer service and I asked for some free samples of the eric johnson picks and I’m excited for them to come in.
