About the hole “deep purple influenced the metal genre” thing, I am a metalhead, and the first time i heard deep purple was like wauw that´s fucking great music! I can easily understand why metal musicians would be inspired by such a great band. Horns up too the great purple knights :) sorry for the spelling guys and girls

Tell me more about Rich’s recognition of Paice. I’ve wondered about it for years. What did Buddy actually say about Ian “The Mule”?

Ian Paice was was 20 when he did the concerto thing in 1969 and was about 23 here. His technique is just fantastic. Buddy Rich rated him which says an awful lot

“Ian Paice, Ian Paice. All right!!” Exciting! You can tell. That was a loud concert.

your right man..the bands of today honestly suck and no way size up to the great bands like deep purple, led zeppelin, the who, aerosmith, black sabbath, etc.

    Deep Purple influenced heavy metal.
They were hard rock. “Heavy metal”
    is not a negative term.

Amazing drummer! I perfer Bonzo, overall, but Paice is the only rock drummer who could get pretty close to Buddy Rich in terms of speed / technique.

i was responding to another comment about the talent of modern day metal drumming. i do not consider deep purple to be metal and i have been a fan of them since i was 6. the next time you reply to a comment, please read the comment thread and don`t be so impolite.

    thanks.
