But get it straight… There is no drummer alive or dead that would even dare challenge Buddy Rich to a drum off and expect to even have a chance in hell. Nobody period.

It actually reminds me of a warm up we had in my high school drum line. so don’t even think gadd invented acadence 200 years old. Haven’t had the occasion to play late in eve but no bfd again. Look at 5:26 and you can see Billy’s floor tom has a pedal which changes the pitch. I heard it early in the solo but haven’t seen that used much at all. Billy was and is great, even with the freaky left hand traditional grip. Great recording and solo!

I’m not a fan of Neal Peart, just a preference. but he does have a great feel. Check his playing with the Buddy Rich Big Band. He can swing his ass off, just not how he makes a living. As for Rush, ugh, I don’t get that band at all but just my two cents worth. Opinions are like ass h*les. Everyone has one.

i saw the buddy rich performance with neil peart and i thought it was the worst performance of jazz i’ve ever seen.(except for me). i guess that’s why he’s taking lessons from peter erskine now. he’s just to stiff. i don’t think he has any feel at all. that’s just my opinion though.

Well you did see him play live and I didn’t so I’ll take your word for it. Different strokes for different folks. No argument about Peter Erskine, I love him and Bill Steward.

The small set only makes him more awesome. Gotta love people like this and Matt Cameron and Ginger Baker who kept their sets small.
